AN: How do you see collaboration influencing the future of IT leadership over the next 3–5 yrs??

FR: I firmly believe that in IT, no one holds a monopoly on knowledge. Our landscape spans diverse disciplines, software development, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data, AI and cloud each with its own depth of expertise. For this reason, collaboration will remain a defining pillar of IT leadership over the next years.

As technology continues to evolve rapidly, leaders will increasingly rely on collaborative ecosystems to interpret emerging trends, share insights, anticipate risks, and design resilient digital strategies. Collaboration strengthens our ability to help organizations leverage technology effectively while staying ahead of cybersecurity and operational challenges. The leaders who cultivate cross‑functional, cross‑industry collaboration will be the ones who drive transformative innovation.
AN: How do you ensure your collaboration strategy aligns with broader business objectives and not just IT priorities?

FR: In today’s organizations, technology sits at the heart of nearly every major business process, with only a few operational areas still running manually. Because of this deep interconnection, aligning collaboration efforts with business priorities becomes a natural, strategic necessity.

Technology serves as an enabler of efficiency, innovation, and value creation. Any initiative whether it aims at process optimization, digital transformation, or operational improvement must be approached collaboratively with business teams. By involving stakeholders early, co‑creating solutions, and ensuring shared ownership, the collaboration strategy evolves beyond IT goals and becomes a key driver of organizational growth and competitiveness.
AN: What steps do you take to ensure psychological safety, so team members feel comfortable contributing ideas?

FR: Psychological safety is the foundation of innovation and collective problem‑solving. Acknowledging that no one has all the answers has shaped the way I lead and engage my team. I intentionally maintain an open‑door philosophy where ideas, questions, and challenges are welcomed without judgement.

With a growing Gen Z workforce an expressive, impact‑driven generation creating safe environments is even more essential. They thrive when they feel heard, valued, and empowered. By fostering transparency, encouraging experimentation, and celebrating contributions regardless of hierarchy, I ensure that everyone feels confident to share ideas and challenge the status quo.

AN: What’s one collaboration practice you’ve implemented that revolutionized how your team works together?

FR: One transformative practice has been giving team members full ownership of their ideas and innovations. Traditionally, leaders tend to receive recognition for their teams’ creativity. I prefer a different approach allowing my team to be the visible champions of their initiatives.

By giving credit where it belongs, I’ve seen increased confidence, accountability, engagement, and a culture where innovation is celebrated and sustained. This shift has significantly strengthened collaboration within the team because individuals feel genuinely valued and motivated to contribute.

AN: How has being part of the CY-SEC Agora Kenya network influenced your perspective on collaboration as a leader?

FR: Being part of CY‑SEC Agora Kenya has been instrumental in reshaping my perspective on collaboration. When I joined, my thinking was primarily guided by my own experiences and what I believed would work best. Engaging with peers from diverse industries and working with organizations that approach technology from different viewpoints broadened my understanding immensely.

Through these interactions, I learned that no single technology or strategy fits every situation. Each has its strengths and limitations, and cross‑industry collaboration often leads to fresh insights and unexpected breakthroughs. CY‑SEC Agora reinforced that even when sectors differ, our goals efficiency, effectiveness, innovation, and strong governance are often aligned. This network has deepened my appreciation for shared learning and co‑creating solutions beyond traditional boundaries.
